Elsie is out of control. She can be asleep outside and I’ll bring her in and she’ll do this. She’ll do this and I’ll put her outside, where she’ll lie down straight away and go to sleep. Will she just calm down and relax in the house… nooooooooo. Too hard. Any tips gratefully received. I already have a bottle of Bombay Sapphire. For me.

Oh Rose! I just can’t work out how to settle her down… she is such a live wire, with no ‘off’ switch. Well, I haven’t found it. Flo was an EASY puppy… I’m not sure if this is more normal. I think it would be easier if I put Flo out, but that’s not really fair to poor Flo. Argh! I cannot wait until she’s had all her vaccinations and I can start walking her… I think she’s going to be one of those dogs!
Whoa – now that’s mischief with a capital M!! Walking her will probably help her expend some of that puppy energy, but in the meantime I think you may be in for a lot of straightening time! I feel for you!

Poor Flo! As for Elsie all I can say is that I grew up in a crate unless my humans were actively engaged in training me or playing with me. I still love my crate. I still require hours of exercise and I’m 6 years old. My Human still spends at least 15 minutes a day just training me, often just basic stuff…as if I could forget…plus lots of new stuff to keep my interest…and then hiking every day the weather permits, usually this is off leash.
I hate to depress you but when I came to live with my current Human I was 14 months old and terrifying in my “wildness”…leaping and crashing into the Humans and racing across the hardwood floors marring them with my claws.

Hee hee. Yes, she’s been tearing around the floor… but thankfully her claws aren’t long enough to mark them… yet! I can’t wait until she’s had all her vaccinations and I can get her out and walking. That should tire her out. We’ve been doing little five minute bursts of training in the evenings, which she’s really good at because she’s a quick learner and much more food oriented than Flo. She’s just a live wire!
Holy moly! Agility training, maybe? Good luck with that! 😉

OMG! You look like you have children. I think it’s best to consider having a minimalist house. You might soon anyway, once Elsie has eaten all your furniture.

Ah yes. When Thunder was a puppy he was either going 100 mph or fast asleep. There was no in between. Lots and lots of exercise helped…a bit.

Uh oh – I’d love to have a great suggestion to help you out, but I can’t think of anything whilst you can’t exercise much – plus it wouldn’t be good Mischief then, right? 🙂

Yay! Stetson usually sleeps all day, but the past couple days he started taking all of the toys our of the bin and spreading them across the room. Our living room looks almost exactly the same!
Hurrah! It’n not just me!!
I’m thinking crate. And then slowly increasing her area of freedom. Also leaving a leash on her when she is in the house for gentle re-directs or for when you are training or playing with her. She has to earn that freedom and prove she will behave.
I think a lead sounds like a good idea. She sleeps in a crate at night but she’s not good at confinement otherwise – even with Kongs or chews… her attention span is just too short. She’s getting so that she’ll sit with a meaty bone for a while now, but that’s a bit too messy for a crate! She was a bit more settled last night, but we’d been to puppy pre-school so she was more worn out and she’s also got a UTI I think.
