A little news about Fergus – we finally got the test results back – her sample had to be sent from Melbourne to the States. The good news is that she has been screened for every known parasitic infection she could have and all those results are negative. We were already pretty sure that she doesn’t have a protozoan infection. She’s also wormed regularly so we’re fairly confident that it’s nothing like that but she’s going to be screened again on Tuesday just to be sure, as well as having a blood test to assess her thyroid function. I can’t help but think this problem is as a result of the accident but I know that everything else has to be ruled out. In the meantime, I’ve been busy reading things online and have been wondering if it is something like irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease, which is something that the v-e-t mentioned this evening when he phoned to go over things. He just laughed when I said I’d already been reading up on it! Having said that, she had anti-inflammatories and they made no difference. Hmmm. So, hopefully we’ll rule out some more things next week and maybe get some answers. In the meantime she continues to run from one end of the house to the other, climb the furniture, have a good appetite and she isn’t losing any weight. Must. not. be. a. stress. head.

Are you really considering getting a second dog? LOL I’m always thinking about getting a third one! I do hope Fergus is ok.
Errr…. not so much ‘considering’, more …. ‘getting’. It’s due in 2 weeks so will be here in 10. :S Shhhh. Don’t tell Flo. Or George.
And are you really, seriously considering a third? I know you’ve mentioned it in passing (ish) in some of your posts… I did wonder if you were a bit more serious than you made out??!!

I consider a third dog but think I would only do it if one of mine were sick. I would do it more for companionship for the other dog. I am seriously considering taking in seniors when the time comes. 😦 Which when I think about puts me in hysterics. 😦
I hope you get some answers about Fergus soon! As for the list, I would expand a little on #8. One more animal means that much less time you have for yourself. Take it from someone who knows.

Well, the count at this end is one dog, four cats and two horses (even if the latter don’t actually live at the house). I have pondered the “another dog” issue and concluded that the quality of the relationship I have with Tommy, and possibly his own relationship with the cats, might be adversely affected. Plus he has two very close doggie friends at the neighbors’ so he doesn’t pine for canine company.
When I reached #10 and nothing was forthcoming, I thought you were just being a tease. Then I saw your reply! Golly! Where’s it coming from?! Does Flo know this blog is soon going to be called Fabulous Flo and *****?
I hope you get some conclusive news on Fergus. The worst thing is not knowing.
Hee hee. I know, it’s exciting. It’s been in the pipeline for a few months now – Flo’s mum is having another litter, which will be her third and therefore last, so Flo is going to have a (half) sister. She doesn’t know it yet and her blog is not going to be re-titled though little sis will be making appearances!

Thanks C. I’m hoping that we’re going to find out what’s causing Fergus’ issues soon, but she really isn’t behaving under the weather or anything, so I’m trying not to be a stress head.
I love that you adopted one of the baby g-piggies! They were sooo sweet! I wonder if it realises that it’s landed in such a wonderful home?!
I do know when to quit, and this is it! The puppy is Flo’s half sister. Registered breeders only breed from the same bitch 3 times and so this is Flo’s mum’s last litter. She is such a wonderful mum to her pups and they have great dispositions. I do get myself into a moral quandry because I firmly believe in rehoming from shelters but I also still feel like a complete novice when it comes to dogs so need to know what I’m getting. 😦 The litter is due in a couple of weeks so I shall be posting about it when it happens. 🙂

Congrats on the future new dog! We’re maxed out here with 2 dogs, 4 cats and a lizard. Everyone gets along for the most part, but I think one more anything could be a problem.

Oh my word, another dog! You really are a glutton for punishment! Is it another Ridgeback?
Flo’s thing sounds a bit like Dec Exploding Bum Issues. He had lots of tests (though I don’t think quite as comprehensive as Flo’s!) but nothing showed up. Our best guess is that it’s a type IBS / IBD that was caused by the prolonged bout of diharrhoea he had after picking up some kind of bug last Autumn. Now he seems to get a 2-3 day bout every couple of months. Can’t pin it on anything. Over-the-counter medication, and of course, pumpkin usually sort him out!
We’re just going to have to wait and see – I’ve been putting pumpkin in with her food and amazingly (for a cat) she hasn’t turned her nose up at it but it hasn’t made any difference to the other end! I’ve been and found her some grain free biccies which have something in them which will supposedly aid digestion but she sniffed them and then ate the other biccies from around them. George came past and ate the lot! I just want some sort of answer now, it’s gone on for sooooo long without a break for the poor wee thing.
